Weather Situation
DAMAGING WINDS DEVELOPING EARLY THIS AFTERNOON AND DAMAGING SURF IN THE EVENING
A low pressure system developing near the northeast New South Wales coast will move to the west of the island today. The low pressure system will bring damaging winds to the island from Sunday early afternoon with damaging surf possible from later Sunday evening.
Damaging winds averaging 65 to 85 km/h with peak gusts of around 120 km/h are possible from early this afternoon. Winds are forecast to ease below warning threshold by Monday.
Damaging surf conditions forecast from this evening, with waves exceeding 5 metres in the surf zone, may produce significant beach erosion, particularly for east facing beaches. These conditions are likely to continue into Monday.
The Norfolk Island Police advise you:
- - Stay out of the water and stay well away from surf-exposed areas.
- - Keep clear of fallen power lines, stay indoors away from windows and keep children indoors.
- - Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard or
- property
- - Move vehicles under cover or away from trees
