Weather Situation

DAMAGING WINDS AND DAMAGING SURF DEVELOPING FROM EARLY THIS MORNING

A low pressure system developing near the northeast New South Wales coast will move to the north of the island today. The low pressure system will bring damaging winds and damaging surf to the island from early this morning.

Winds will ease by Sunday evening.

Damaging winds averaging 65 to 85 km/h with peak gusts of around 120 km/h are possible from early this morning.

Winds are forecast to ease below warning threshold on Sunday evening.

Damaging surf conditions forecast this morning, with waves exceeding 5 metres in the surf zone, may produce significant beach erosion, particularly for east facing beaches. These conditions are likely to continue into Monday.
